The Visions System
Visions Communications Collection ®
To ensure as much success as possible in the Community, the Visions
Communications Collection is a variety of
books, cards and pictures/photographs that assist the individual in community
tasks or activities. These tools enable a person to prepare for or communicate
at various community activities i.e. to order a meal at a restaurant, to select
correct items from a grocery store, or to request assistance from a store clerk.
It is important to create whatever is needed for the person in order to be
successful in the community.
The Visions Communications Collection® also enhances the
ability to do meal planning in the residence.

Visions Menu of Meals ®
For Single recipes
and Meals
16
(pre-made) Recipes or 32 (pre-made) Recipes
8 Meals (2 pre-selected recipes) OR 16 Meals
The Visions Menu of Meals is a library of recipes designed for
Individuals who can benefit from "preparing a meal". Visions for
Independent Living (Visions) has determined that a Meals Category is
fundamentally the most important Category for Individuals to attain independence
in their residential environment. Each recipe provides detailed step-by-step
instructions to guide the Individual with picture prompts, related voice
prompts, and written word through the entire process from start to finish.
Visions has prepared 100 recipes
from which to choose. Each recipe took us about 6-8 hours to create. These
recipes have been prepared for One Person and for Two People. The recipes are
the same for each but the steps are different. The steps include, but are not
limited to: the ingredients of the recipe; the utensils used in the recipe; how
to make the recipe; and, putting away the leftovers. If you want to review
all of the recipes, how many steps in each recipe, and the ingredients for each
recipe, see Recipes.
SAFETY was always first and foremost
when making these recipes. With this in mind, the only appliances used in any
recipe are microwave ovens, crockpots, and can openers. Conventional ovens and
stoves are not used because of increased safety risks. When using the Microwave,
an Individual must be able to match numbers. When using the Crockpot, an
Individual must be able to set a timer and plug in and pull out the cord. In
most instances, a butter knife or scissors were used for cutting. A sharp knife
was only used in 3 recipes. Boiling water for pasta that needed to be poured out
in a strainer was only used in 3 recipes. (Hot water was used in other recipes,
such as jello.)
An Individual can have a Category of Recipes
and/or a
Category of Meals (which have been pre-made). An Individual may also have
recipes for one person or recipes for two people or a combination of both. The
Price List narrows down the numbers for each and the corresponding cost. [see

either a Meal Category or single Recipe Category because all of these categories
interconnect. The Grocery Shopping Category is a Specialized Category and
all of the above Communications Collection is included in the additional cost.
[see price list]
The Red Menu of Meals Book has laminated recipe pictures (the same
pictures as the ones on the touchscreen) that have been inserted into vinyl
sleeves. Behind each recipe picture are laminated pictures of the ingredients
for the recipe. Also included is the Yellow Meals for the Week Binder. In
this Category, the Individual is guided to choose the recipes or meals to make
for the week and take the pages out of the Red Book and put the pages in the
Yellow Book. Now that the pages are in the Yellow Book, the Individual has done
meal planning for the week.
The Individual is then instructed to pull all of the ingredient pictures out
from behind each recipe picture and put them in the Brown Picture List Book.
And finally, the Individual is asked to pull all needed grocery picture items
out of the File Box and put those pictures in the Brown Picture List Book as
well. These are pictures of other grocery items besides ingredients (i.e.
breakfast items, paper products, cleaning supplies, snacks, etc.)
When the steps are followed in this Category, the Individual has the
opportunity to be successful in the meal planning process, the grocery shopping
experience, and the meal preparation.

times, Individuals have used these cards to remind themselves who
they are buying a greeting card for.

system and needs to match the bus # with a bus # card to
